Raining for the first time in weeks.

It is raining. This is a GOOD THING.It has hardly rained at all so far this year so the garden and I are thrilled to see grey gloomy rain.Gives me an excuse to do some gentle crafting and play with colour. Some colour -themed sets of decorations for my shops- go to the right and click on the links for my website or folksy shop.

A Walk on the Wild Side

My lovely old ginger cat died a couple of weeks ago

I knew I wouldn't last long without a cat in the house: it would be unfair for a new cat to come into a house that still smelt of another cat, so frantic carpet shampooing and general cleaning and tidying ensued with some catching up on decorating jobs that had been waiting to be done for years thrown in for good measure.

New cat arrived last weekend, settling in well, a very sweet animal, shy and nervous after being a stray, I'm glad I shampooed carpets like a lunatic last week.

Glorious weather today and I got out of the house and garden for the first time in over a week and went to see the Military Orchids that grow near here before they finish blooming. They are very, very rare and protected by little cages so they don't get walked on/eaten/whatever. It has been many years since I last visited them, which I realise is really very stupid- when something so beautiful and so rare is on the doorstep it is pretty bonkers not to find an hour or so to visit each Spring.

Wonderful. Also spotted a lot of Fly Orchids- tiny, shiny bright red/brown and lime green and just beautiful. And we heard a Cuckoo.
Bliss.

Flowering Tree

This painting has been hanging around for ages waiting for me to know just how to finish it.

Over the months it has changed, become more colourful

more elaborate.

This afternoon it also got itself finished.Which is good for two reasons:
1:I found a wonderfully inspiring book in oxfam yesterday on Hungarian Folk Art and I'm all inspired and want to crack on with something new.

2: it is due an at exhibition tomorrow....nearly oops....

Printing

I am now in full crazy preparation mode for the Open Studios Fortnight.First time I've done it, so a mixture of blind panic, fear and more blind panic.

This weekend I calmed myself by doing some sheets of printing and turned them into one-off cards to sell at the event.

I so like printing and printing and printing layer after layer of pattern until it all builds up and unexpected shapes and textures appear.

More gorgeous flowers

The next wave of Hippeastrums are blooming.

Some rather fab red and white stripy numbers

A double pink that was a "rescue' bulb

It had been a gift to a friend for Christmas a few years ago and was rescued in the nick of time from the trip to the green bin.

I'm not a huge fan of the doubles, as I love the trumpet shape, but when you look closely into it it is dreamy

and as for the colour on the back of the petals...

Scrumptious.

Things have been a bit manic lately and finding time to create has been a challenge, but today was my first day back in my own undisturbed world of peace, quiet and paint. So I've been having fun this morning printing and sticking and making cards ready for the 'big event next month'...watch this space....
