The World Turned Upside Down

Sewing machine: found and running.
Computer: found and running.
Boxes: nearly all emptied.
First quilt: started.

Then it all went horribly wrong.
I am for the foreseeable future on nursing duties for my Mother, so when nice things get made I will show them, but  it will be a quick visit and then I will be off again.

Well, Hello!

Back. Sewing machine found and set up, computer found and set up, studio set up enough to start working again. Quilt to design and make next week, so have to get myself organised and back into the swing of things!
There are way fewer boxes around the house now- only one still to unpack here in the studio. I have to admit the sea and beach have been a terrible distraction and whenever it is fine I have been attacking the garden which is currently full- I am not exaggerating here- FULL of bindweed.
The time has flown past.
It being nearly Mid Summer I am making Autumn and winter projects, which you will be seeing soon...in the meantime a little reminder that if you like the Sunburst cushion design, the pattern is in the July edition of Sewing World Magazine, also teaching it at lady Sew and Sew on June 25th.

Bye Bye River, Hello Sea.

We are off . Goodbye to the River Thames, Hello to the sea. With luck, normal service will be resumed once those pesky boxes are unpacked!

Easter Chick Kits

This week I have been working on a new  hand sewing felt decoration kit- the Easter Chick. Fun working it out and I end up with some nice decorations for the house too!

On the move

The van is booked and we are moving regardless of selling. I think I must, in some previous life, have offended the gods of house moving mightily. We are about to enter the second year of attempting to move house and we find ourselves, at the end of a year of house selling and buying, with one more house than we had at the start of the process....we thought we had sold our old house a couple of months ago when two people who had been thinking about buying for months and months got suddenly into a race to buy...then the race winner dropped out  and the loser didn't want to play any more...so, back to square one. It is starting to get to me now, too much uncertainty for too long.
But one thing I am certain is that my garden bench will look very cheery this Summer with two Tula Elizabeth cushions adorning it!

In between the wall paper stripping...

We are moving and currently I am bouncing back and forth between two homes, one I am packing and one I am getting ready to move into and I have very little time- or energy- for much other than The Move. But the Spring sunshine was so lovely this afternoon I dashed outside to photograph this cushion cover before it went on its way to Sewing World Magazine, made from Tula Pink's new collection 'Elizabeth' the colours just glowed in the dappled light and matched my 'distressed', i.e. in dire need of painting, garden seat perfectly. I am a big fan of Ms Pink's designs and this new range is really fun, she is so good at chosing her colours and the different scales and textures of her designs are a joy for a quilter to use.

Back to wall paper stripping now- two weeks and counting!

New Year, New House Move Hell...

Last week I thought everything was sorted with our house move at long last, then our buyers pulled out .... sigh. I have decided that I am doomed and should just do some sewing instead.
So, what am I working on? Designs based on Penny Rugs, I am using heavyweight brushed cotton backing fabric and felts, though any fabrics would work for the designs. I am designing three panels that can form a wall hanging or part of a quilt, single panels (18" square) would work on their own as cushions and one of the designs can be made as a proper Penny Rug. I am having great fun working on these and will be making up printed patterns for them for sale once I have finalised the designs.

Far from finished and rubbish photos- but you get the idea! I am hoping to find the time to do some fabric versions too.

Still here...

...and there. Currently stretched between two houses- one I am sorting and packing and one I am preparing for moving into. Starting to feel confused about where I am and what day it is...another month and we should be moving at long last and it will be into a house with a working boiler and electrics if all goes to plan! Busy busy busy...normal service will resume eventually!
